From idea to renovated facility
Mälarenergi faced a significant challenge when it needed to carry out renovation work on a cooling water culvert dating back to the 1970s, located under the harbour area. Much of the work was carried out underwater in Lake Mälaren, requiring the use of certified commercial divers.
Project manager's responsibility for communication, risk analysis and final negotiations
In addition to planning, organisation and implementation, the project manager has been responsible for communication and coordination between the activities and the project, as well as the design and recommendation of the technical solution. We have also been committed to carefully negotiating and establishing contracts with designers to ensure that all planning, management and coordination of the design is carried out to the highest standards. We have ensured that all the necessary audits are carried out in accordance with the specifications set by the contracting authority, and have ensured that the contractor establishes and maintains the required control, quality, health and safety and environmental plans.
Our responsibilities have also included procurement and contracting, carried out in co-operation with the procurement officers, to meet the needs of the project. We have been actively involved in the preparation and monitoring of comprehensive scope, time, financial, resource, quality and health, safety and environment (HSE) plans.
We have also maintained ongoing communication with contractors to effectively manage the construction process, engaged surveyors, and ensured that necessary inspections were carried out. Furthermore, we handled final negotiations with contractors, conducted risk assessments, and performed workplace safety evaluations to uphold the integrity and safety of the project.
The project resulted in the renovation of 20 metres of the total 180-metre culvert. The remaining 160 metres, for potential future renovation, were referred for further investigation and analysis.
