In mid-2022, Sigholm was tasked with leading the work to increase the digitalisation of maintenance work for Tekniska Verken in Kiruna's district heating operations. The organisation felt that there was potential for improvement in the work processes for providing and following up maintenance at the plant, both around structure, standardisation, information flows and communication around the work. In addition, the focus was largely on managing reactive measures instead of more planned and long-term sustainable maintenance, which is both costly and time-consuming.
Implementation of new working methods, system customisation and training
Together with Tekniska Verken in Kiruna, work was carried out on the development and implementation of routines and work processes, as well as system customisation and training in the MaintMaster maintenance system. The overall goal was to increase the use of the system and work with targeted maintenance work for a reliable plant. This included measures to increase planability and reduce the need for reactive measures in operations by working as much as possible with preventive maintenance and planned corrective maintenance. The work also included the development of key figures and working methods for monitoring target management.
After the implementation and training, Sigholm was given continued confidence to actively revise and adapt the work processes in close cooperation with Tekniska Verken in Kiruna to further anchor the new ways of working and build more and more processes into the system.
After two years of joint work, we have been able to create value together in several ways
Increased system use among employees
Increased system usage means that more data is collected, which contributes to increased knowledge of where a lot of time and money is spent and enables more targeted maintenance.
Reduced the amount of fire extinguishing in favour of FU and plannable AU
A downward trend in the proportion of urgent AU jobs in relation to FU jobs and plannable AU shows increased plannability, which is important for increasing the availability of the facility and avoiding spending a lot of time extinguishing fires.
Increased transparency - information is more shared and easy to find
The number of recurring jobs in the system has steadily increased. This leads to an increased knowledge of the work activities of groups/individuals and greater opportunity for the whole organisation to gain insight into what is happening at the site.
Clear work processes and responsibilities
Efficiency increases when there are clear work tasks and the risk of work steps being missed is mitigated. Clear job routines allow internal knowledge to be gathered and shared with the whole organisation, making knowledge less dependent on individuals.
