VafabMiljö is a municipal association that works with recycling and sustainable and environmentally sound waste management. In the region of Västmanland County, Heby and Enköping Municipality live about 330,000 people with about 16,000 companies that all generate waste. There is a goal that waste should be managed in an environmentally sound manner and in the near future also reduce the amount of waste.
Quality management and ISO 9001 and 14001 certification
Over the course of a year, Sigholm carried out four similar assignments at VafabMiljö, where the main focus initially was to certify the workplace according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The biogas plant had previously not been included for organisational reasons, but now it was to be integrated into VafabMiljö's certificate for quality and environmental management.
To meet the ISO certifications, a working methodology that followed the standards was first implemented. This included processes for deviation management, improvement work, goal management, activity planning and documentation. At the same time, a review and revision of existing procedures within VafabMiljö's management system was underway in preparation for the upcoming external audit, especially regarding procedures for project management, deviation management and customer communication.
After a successful external audit for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, work continued on developing working methods and ensuring compliance for an external audit of the sustainability criteria for biofuels and bioliquids. After approval, efforts were focused on developing working methods and ensuring compliance for an external audit according to SPCR 120, Certification Rules for Biofertilisers, which was also approved after review.
